Obiage
An obiage is a cloth worn underneath the obi (sash) of a kimono. Typically white or cream-colored, it is wrapped beneath the obi-jime (cord tied around the obi) to prevent slipping and to enhance the elegance of the attire. Obiage is chosen to complement the color and pattern of the obi-jime and is selected based on the season and design of the kimono.
How to Use (Sash Cord) with Kimono:
Wrap it over the obi: Obiage is wrapped over the obi. After wrapping the obi around the waist, wrap the obiage over it to cover the knot of the obi.
Shape it: After wrapping the obiage, shape it neatly. Ensure that it covers the knot of the obi neatly and that the obiage overall looks smooth.
Decorate the knot: Fold one end of the obiage over the knot and arrange the decoration. You can showcase the design or pattern of the it to embellish the knot area beautifully.
Secure with a fastener: If necessary, use a fastener (obi-dome) to secure the obiage in place. This prevents the obiage from slipping or moving around.
Materials:
Silk: Silk is commonly used for traditional. It has an elegant and soft texture that complements the kimono well.
Polyester: Polyester has become common in recent years. It is easier to care for compared to silk and can often be machine washed, making it suitable for everyday wear.
otton: Cotton may be used in the summer or for casual occasions. It has good breathability and feels lightweight.
Wool: Wool may be used in colder seasons to match with warmer kimono. It provides warmth and comfort.
