Men’s kimono category. Men’s kimono, known as “wafuku,” (wafuku means Japanese wear) is a traditional Japanese garment typically comprised of the following elements:
1. Men’s kimono are usually available in either single-color (plain) or patterned (with family crests) options. The material and pattern may vary depending on the season and occasion, with subdued colors often preferred for formal settings.
2. The obi is a sash used to secure the kimono around the body and is tied using specific knots called “obi musubi.” Common types of obi for men include the half-width obi (hanhaba obi) and the narrow obi (shimemi obi). The color and pattern of the obi are also chosen to harmonize with the kimono.
3. Tabi are traditional socks worn with kimono, typically reaching up to the ankle. Zori are wooden or bamboo sandals worn with tabi when wearing kimono.
4. Obidome is An ornamental accessory used to secure the obi, often made of metal and attached to the obijime, a decorative cord used to tie the obi.
Men’s kimono come in various styles and decorations depending on the occasion and season. In addition to traditional forms, there are also modern designs and patterns available, allowing for versatility in fashion and suitability for different events.
The obi belt is worn higher on the waist. Materials often include silk or hemp, adjusted for thickness and weight according to the season.
